  • Leo Bodnar Icom IC-9700 Reference Injection Board

    0 out of 5
    • Adds frequency reference/stability to the Icom IC-9700
    • This module allows locking the ICOM IC-9700 radio transceiver internal frequency reference, to an external 49.152MHz signal. If the internal reference is locked to a GPS signal, achievable ICOM stability can be better than 1Hz on all bands.
    • Installing this module inside the ICOM IC-9700 does not require any soldering or modification to internal circuitry. This modification is completely reversible and should not affect your warranty.
    • This module is designed to be used and has been tested with the Leo Bodnar GPS reference clocks signal sources.

  • 440 MHz Filter/Preamp

    0 out of 5

Uputronics filtered preamps for improved reception on 440 Mhz.

This is a cost effective SAW based unit which give excellent performance gains.

All Uputronics preamps are compatible with most USB SDR Dongles such as the Airspy. You can power them from either bias tee (This item is 100% compatible with the Airspy bias-tee) or a simple USB minicable (Purchased separately). Bias tee/USB voltage is 5V max.

This unit is a small filter and preamp designed to go between a software defined radio receiver and an antenna. Using a SAW bandpass filter and a low noise amplifier (LNA), it stops out of band intermodulation while providing additional gain for increased sensitivity. The LNA is before the SAW filter. To block strong commercial FM signals a high pass filter is installed before the LNA.

The LNA used is a MiniCircuits PSA4-5043+ which provides at least 19dB of gain. To stop out of band intermodulation a 440Mhz SAW bandpass filter, which has a 15MHz bandwidth is also present. The insertion loss of this filter is approximately 2.3dB, which does increase the overall noise figure of the unit to 0.75dB.

The connectors on both input and output are SMA Female. The external power connector is a USB-C and this revision has a power LED.

    Frequently Asked Questions:

Q/ Is this unit based on Linux and NTP ?
A/ No the hardware and code running it are completely propriety and don’t use any source code from Linux or NTP. This is done to ensure maximum performance with no overheads and security issues.

    Q/ Can I configure it via HTTP/Telnet ?
A/ No. Running a web server on this device although entirely possible would reduce the performance of the unit. Therefore we took the decision to just do configuration via the front panel.

Q/ The performance figures look too good to be true at the price
A/ The performance figures are the result of a focused determination to get the best performance out of the hardware. By not using off the shelf hardware and software we have no overheads or compromises. Try it yourself using Miroslav Lichvar's ntpperf tool.

It only starts to drop when the 100Mb interface is maxed out:

    nevis@test:~/ntpperf$ sudo ./ntpperf -i enp5s0 -m 70:B3:D5:E3:D0:04 -d 172.16.1.72 -s 172.16.1.0/16 -B

Q/ Can the unit be firmware updated?
A/ Yes via USB into a Windows PC or Mac. Updates take about 5 seconds to apply.

Q/ Is the BNC output compatible with the Airspy
A/ Yes. Set the BNC output to 10Mhz. Connect the unit to your Airspy via the optional BNC to MCX cable and power the Airspy on.

Q/ Can the unit display my local time ?
A/ Yes. Press the button on the clock screen and use the knob to select your time zone.

Q/ Whats the maximum length of coax to the antenna ?
A/ This depends on the antenna and coax. We've tested our timing antenna (comes with 10 meters of coax) with a 20 meter extension and it works fine. The unit is POE so it may be easier to run a network cable closer to the antenna and install the unit there.

Q/ Does the unit support IPv6
A/ Not currently its in the pipeline and will be available to all units on release via firmware update.

Q/ What happens on loss of GPS Signal
A/ The unit enters failover mode which uses internal compensation to maintain the accuracy of the timing to 1-4ms typically over 24 hours. After 24 hours with no GPS signal the unit reverts to being a Stratum 16 time source.

    Q/ Leap Second Support
A/ The unit has leap second support and a count down timer to the next leap second insertion.
